Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the main stream Departments of GIMT, right from the inception of the College. The department currently runs one undergraduate program - B. Tech. (Mechanical Engineering). Ever since its inception, Mechanical has been one of the most sought after branch of the institute. Objective of the undergraduate program is to prepare the Mechanical Engineers that are globally the best. Most of the students, who graduate from the department, will end up taking leading positions in industry, academia and government, both within India and abroad. In addition to classroom interaction students of Mechanical Engineering need a lot of practical training in the Laboratories, Workshop, Drawing Office and Computer Aided Drawing and Design. To help students learn their practical aspects, following state of the art laboratories conforming to the WBUT syllabus have been established.

The Department of Electrical Engineering has been an integral part of GIMT since its inception. The major areas of interest of the faculty include Control system, Power system, Electrical Machines and Power Electronics. The department makes every endeavor to improve the laboratory infrastructure and facilities. Over the past three years the faculties of the department have published numerous papers in various Journals/Conference Proceedings. With the available resources the department makes all out efforts to impart training to the students to make them disciplined, competent and motivated Engineers.

In recent years, Electronics & Communication Engineering has made unprecedented growth in terms of new technologies, new ideas and principles resulting in extremely high rate of obsolescence of technologies. Researchers, academicians, industries and the society at large have to work in unison to meet the challenges of the rapidly growing discipline. The research organizations and industries that work in this frontier area are in need of highly skilled and scientifically oriented manpower. This manpower can be available only with flexible, adaptive and progressive training programs and a cohesive interaction among the research organizations, academicians and industries. The ECE Department of GIMT has been consistently working towards this goal. The teaching program contains a proper blend of basic concepts and advances in technology. The faculty has succeeded in keeping a lively atmosphere among the students with innovative teaching techniques. The teaching is closely coupled with the research activities of the department. The ECE department is very well equipped with latest technology hardware and software.

This has been one of the most lucrative and competitive course to study since its inception in Indian engineering schools, colleges and universities. When India’s computer industry created mark in world of business and earned precious foreign exchange for the nation it also created large amount of well paid jobs for Computer Science & Engineering students. This is really an excellent field to have opportunities both in software companies and higher studies. As computing is extensively applied to almost every walk of life it created massive jobs for Computer Science & Engineering students. On the same time more demand and application kept it research funding alive attracting many students to opt for higher studies. With the above factors in consideration, GIMT established the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in the academic year 2010-2011 with state-of-art laboratories infrastructure and a blend of highly qualified and experienced faculty members with good industrial and IT exposure to nourish the budding engineers to generate highly skilled manpower both for the IT industry and for research in the cutting-edge technologies.
